Henry Kressel
Partner and Senior Managing Director, Warburg Pincus
Henry Kressel, Ph.D. is a partner and a senior managing director
of Warburg Pincus, a diversified venture capital firm. Kressel began
his career as a researcher in electronics and lasers at RCA Laboratories,
now the Sarnoff Corporation,
a wholly owned SRI International subsidiary, where he devoted 24
years and attained the position of staff vice president. During
his career, he led the development and commercialization of many
semiconductor device breakthroughs in light sources, detectors,
and integrated circuits. His work pioneered the first practical
semiconductor lasers and the first epitaxial silicon solar cell.
Kressel serves on the board of directors of
Sarnoff Corporation, Telcordia Technologies, Inc. and RMI Corporation. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Yeshiva University and is the Chairman of its Academic Affairs Committee.
He holds 31 U.S. patents and has published more than 120 papers and three books. As the founding president of the IEEE Laser and Electro-Optics Society, Kressel was instrumental in founding the Journal of Lightwave Technology, and has received many scientific awards and honors. He is a fellow of the IEEE and the American Physical Society, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. A graduate and honorary doctor of Yeshiva College in physics, Kressel has an M.S. in Applied Physics from Harvard, a Ph.D. in Material Science from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from its Wharton School.
