Meet Our People
SRI's innovative thinking depends directly on the people who work
here. Meet members of our team and learn why they joined SRI
you may discover that you would like to join the team, too. Visit
Careers @ SRI for descriptions of current openings.
Meet Carol Green, Senior Director, Toxicology and Metabolism, Biosciences Division
Focus @ SRI:
Toxicology and pharmacokinetics of pharmaceuticals; methods for early prediction of absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) of new drugs; in vitro models of toxicity
Day in the Life @ SRI:
Most of my days at SRI include reading email, attending meetings, reviewing data, holding discussions with staff members, and calling clients. An excellent day is when I learn something new, share research results with coworkers and clients, and see someone else get as excited about the work as I am.
Before SRI:
I basically grew up at SRI. I came to SRI when "the ink was still wet" on my Ph.D. degree, as a postdoctoral researcher in biochemical toxicology using human tissues to understand drug metabolism and toxicity. Those studies laid the foundation for many of the in vitro techniques used today to select the best compounds and to predict the behavior of new pharmaceuticals before the drugs are ever given to patients.
Academics:
Ph.D. in Toxicology and Pharmacology, University of California, Davis
Why SRI?
Interesting, important work; unending variety of challenges; wonderful co-workers; opportunities to learn both science and management
Away from the Office:
I ski, ride bikes, knit (a lot), and enjoy my family. My irrational obsession is that I am a nationally competitive breeder and exhibitor of fancy rabbits (American Fuzzy Lops).
Proudest Professional Accomplishment:
In research conducted at SRI in the 1980s, we demonstrated that hepatocytes isolated from human organ donor liver can be used to predict the metabolism of drugs and other xenobiotics (chemicals foreign to the body).
Words of Wisdom for New SRI Team Members:
Do the best possible job you can for your clients, SRI, and yourself. Yes, that man in the cafeteria who is heading straight toward your table for a chat really is SRI CEO Curt Carlson; take advantage of his interest in your work.
