Meet John McIntire, Associate General Counsel, Legal and Business Affairs

Focus @ SRI:
Providing legal and strategic counsel in support of SRI's mission.

Day in the Life @ SRI:
One of the best aspects of my job is that there is no "typical" day. Over the course of a given week, I engage in a range of activities clustered around several areas. A significant portion of my time is devoted to fostering SRI's commercial activities—working with various teams to conceptualize, negotiate, and draft the legal agreements that allow SRI to create value in a commercial context. I also advise on general corporate matters relating to contracting, human resources, corporate governance, and the like. One of the most interesting aspects of my position is the opportunity to contribute to major strategic projects initiated by SRI's senior staff.

Before SRI:
Following law school, I spent several years as a corporate attorney in Silicon Valley focused on licensing, private and public financings (i.e., venture capital and IPOs), mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate counseling. I then spent several years as a business strategy consultant with McKinsey & Company. I held several positions within SAP Software, including Vice President of SAP's Global Intellectual Property Group.

B.A. summa cum laude in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, Claremont McKenna College
J.D., Yale Law School (Olin Fellow)

Inspiration and Motivation:
Broadly speaking, my primary professional motivation is to use my expertise and experience to help individuals and organizations achieve their greatest potential.

Away from the Office:
I enjoy movies, politics, songwriting, hiking, mountaineering, and sea kayaking. I am currently pursuing the "life goal" of climbing the highest mountain in each of the 24 time zones (plus Antarctica) and leading kayaking expeditions in each of the Seven Seas.
