Meet . . . Maggie Baxter-Pearson

Focus @ SRI:
Contract management and administration

Title:
Contracts Manager, Engineering & Systems Division

Day in the Life @ SRI:
A typical day finds me engaged in reviewing proposals, meeting with the technical staff about intellectual property issues as they relate to government contracts, collaborating with other contract administrators to resolve various issues, and generally responding to the needs of a lot of different people. The days are always busy and never quite the same.

Before SRI:
My previous life was more focused on financial management than on contracts. I worked as a business manager doing financial forecasting and budgeting for a small electronics manufacturing company in Sunnyvale and before that at TRW in Southern California.

Academics:
B.S. in business management, minor in microeconomics, from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles

Why SRI?
I answered an ad in the National Contracts Management Association newsletter. When I came to interview, I thought that this seemed like a really interesting place to work, so here I am. And, the SRI campus beats a cubicle in an industrial park in Sunnyvale!

Inspiration and Motivation:
Helping bring interesting and exciting work into SRI. I love the fact that we do important things here that really have the potential to make a difference.

Away from the Office:
I'm an avid reader and love to travel. I also enjoy working in my garden.

Languages:
Only English, unfortunately. I took French in high school and grade school but remember almost nothing!

Proudest Professional Accomplishment:
Getting my B.S. after going to night school for six years.

Words of Wisdom for New SRI Team Members:
Don't assume anything. Make sure that you communicate your thoughts and ideas to the rest of the team so that things don't fall through the cracks.

Favorites:
I've recently read "Sea Glass" by Anita Shreve, which I really enjoyed, as well as "The Dive from Clausen's Pier" by Ann Packer. My all-time favorite book is probably "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. My favorite country is New Zealand, closely followed by France.
