Walter Moos, Ph.D., leads SRI International’s Biosciences Division, which teams with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, government agencies, foundations and academic institutions to solve important problems in global health. Programs include basic research into disease mechanisms, discovery and validation of novel pharmaceutical targets, identification and optimization of lead compounds as modulators of drug targets, and preclinical development projects that focus on advancing new drug candidates – from “idea to IND”™.
With more than 25 years experience in the field, Dr. Moos has made significant contributions to all stages of drug development – from academic research, through nonclinical and clinical development, to the marketplace.
Prior to joining SRI, Dr. Moos held executive positions at MitoKor, Inc. (now Migenix), Chiron Corporation (now Novartis) and the Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research Division of the Warner-Lambert Company (now Pfizer). He has held adjunct faculty positions at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and has been an adjunct professor at the University of California, San Francisco since 1992 and at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va., since 2007. Dr. Moos has served on the boards of more than a dozen organizations and has been a member of numerous academic, government or venture capital advisory boards and committees. He has edited five books, helped found multiple scientific journals, published nearly 100 manuscripts and been a co-inventor on 40 issued U.S. patents.
Dr. Moos received his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and an A.B. in honors chemistry, cum laude, from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.
