Human Sleep Research Laboratory
Mayra Padilla, Ph.D.
Staff Scientist
Dr. Padilla joined SRI as a research scientist in 2007. She received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Psychology Department at the University of California at Berkeley in 2005. Her graduate work was done under the supervision of Robert Knight, M.D. and focused on elucidating prefrontal cortex function by studying awake EEG and ERP signals in healthy young adults, healthy older adults, stroke patients with dorsolateral prefrontal cortex damage, and trauma patients with orbital frontal damage. Following, she worked with Alan Gevins at the San Francisco Brain Institute and SAM Technology, Inc. as a neuroscientist and IRB administrator. Her work there involved the use of quantitative EEG, ERP, and neuropsychological test measures to study normal development in adolescents, acute drug effects in young healthy adults, and mild cognitive impairment in older adults. Here at SRI, she is working on projects which combine awake EEG, sleep EEG, and MRI techniques in adolescents, alcoholics, and healthy older adults.
