Sanhita Dixit Dr. Sanhita Dixit is a staff scientist in the Molecular Physics Laboratory. Her research interests include the study of soft matter and biophysical systems with a special emphasis on using optical techniques to probe their structure and function. Dr. Dixit holds a PhD in physics from The University of Edinburgh, UK. During her PhD, she performed experiments to determine the structural disruption of the hydrogen bonded network of water induced by co-solvents such as alcohols. Her work resulted in a powerful alternate view to understand the thermodynamics of aqueous solutions based on hydrogen bond formation and demonstrated that at the molecular level, water and methanol do not mix. Before joining SRI International, Dr. Dixit trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she studied single molecule protein-DNA interactions using total internal reflection microscopy in the laboratory of Dr. Giovanni Zocchi. She continued her postdoctoral training at the University of California, Davis, where she investigated lipid bilayer mechanics using glass beads as probes to sense membrane bending on patterned surfaces. This work was performed in the laboratory of Dr. Atul Parikh. Her last postdoctoral position was at SRI International where she worked with Dr. Faris in the area of tissue optics. She developed a new near infrared imaging modality to detect breast cancer.
