David L. Huestis

Molecular Physics Laboratory

David Huestis joined SRI's Molecular Physics Laboratory as a postdoctoral fellow in 1973. He became Associate Director in 1988, His research activities, experience, and expertise include theoretical and experimental studies of atomic and molecular excited states; molecular spectroscopy; chemical kinetics; lasers and nonlinear optics; scattering theory; applied mathematics and mathematical physics; electronic structure of solids; computer programming and system management; environmental technology and management; R&D and technology management.

Dr. Huestis has directed and participated in experimental and theoretical investigations in areas such as

• Modeling and simulation of physical and chemical systems
• Spectroscopy, kinetics, and mechanisms of gas lasers
• Discharges and plasmas
• Chemistry and spectroscopy of planetary atmospheres
• Electronic and atomic collisions
• Photodissociation and photoionization spectroscopy
• Optical memories and optical signal processing
• Sensors and diagnostics technologies
• Nondestructive Inspection (NDI), Testing (NDT), and Evaluation (NDE)
• Environmentally benign products and processes
• Environmental treatment and remediation technologies

Dr. Huestis is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He is also a member of the American Astronomical Society, American Chemical Society, American Geophysical Union, and American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He has authored 87 journal articles and book chapters, 220 conference presentations, and two patents.

He holds a B.A. (1968) degree in chemistry and mathematics from Macalester College and M.S. (1969) and Ph.D. (1973) degrees in chemistry with a minor in physics from Caltech.
